Transmission Towers in the new photo book by Theo Simpson

Eight is the new book from photographer Theo Simpson. His first, Dead Ends, looked at discarded job slips from job centres, crumpled in frustration and anger. The book gained widespread press attention and was exhibited in both Sheffield and Paris.

Eight focuses on an altogether different subject; the architectural legacy of Sir Reginald Blomfield, the man responsible for the designs of the UK’s initial transmission towers. These towers, utilitarian monuments to the nation’s industry, visible across the landscape are dramatically captured. The images are at once sensitive and reverential, but not without the curiosity or intrigue of a passer by wanting to touch or climb them.

Made at Wisdom Studio in Sheffield, the screen printed pages are massive measuring 594 x 420 mm. Available from Donlon Books in London, and Site Gallery Sheffield. There are only fifty copies, so best get in quick.

Theo’s next book, What We Buy will be out soon.
