Article Monoplex #1: We Are Legion The Story of the Hacktivists

You’re forgiven if you’ve never heard of Anonymous. But if you think the world of online activism, hacktivism for short, isn’t your thing, you ought to reconsider. The battle between free speech and censorship is being fought hard on this new political frontier, with none more vocal, active or influential than the online community known as Anonymous. Over the years they’ve developed from a group of merry pranksters blocking access to pools on Habbo Hotel, to a movement targeting groups from the Church of Scientology to Paypal, and governments through their direct involvement in aiding protesters in both the Arab Spring and Occupy Movements.

Kanappenberger’s must-see feature length documentary meets and interviews members of the group about their actions and activities since formation in 2003, offering a history of the most relevant and important activist groups to emerge for years.

We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists is showing at 2:30pm on the 16th of June in the Article Monoplex, for free! There will also be a Q&A with the director after the film. More information here.
