Art ‘Zorns Lemma’ screening at Nottingham Contemporary
March 23, 2011 ‘Structuralist’ avant-garde film by Hollis Frampton, an experimental investigation into the form of film – catch the free screening this Thursday |
Hollis Frampton was an avant-garde film maker, prolific in the 60s right until his death in 1984. To tie in with Nottingham Contemporary’s current Jack Goldstein exhibition is this screening of a key ‘Structuralist’ film, an experimental investigation into the form of film, using a more basic cinematic language over a strong narrative. Breaking down film language using science, mathematics, philosophy, teamed with Frampton’s brilliant ability to play raconteur in his own films. Frampton saw his films as an arrangement of images, often using mathematical and scientific concepts for a structure to produce the likes of ‘Zorns Lemma’, 1970, which is a must-see breakdown of the cinematic this Thursday night (24 March).
It’s free but you need to book soon to catch this sound introduction to Frampton and conceptual filmmaking via a masterpiece short-film. Not like anything you’ll catch at your local cinema!
