They’re based in London, but they could easily convince you that they’re from the same Californian noise pop scene as No Age and Wavves. A Thousand Heys is full of sunny riffs that inject punk ideology into lo-fi indie, showing Mazes to be pretty close descendents of Pavement and early-REM. ‘Boxing Clever’ in particular sounds as though it’s been mooching off of Stephen Malkmus’ stash.
