April 3, 2011 In-store ‘listening parties’ for Tomboy LP |
All’s been relatively quiet in the Panda Bear quarter of Animal Collective for some time now. Not since 2007′s outing with that textured, sampling experimento-pop of Person Pitch have we heard more than the odd solo peep out of him here and there. For three and a half years followers waited, hungry for sightings of the Bear playing around with new sounds, until finally last summer there were stirrings. Over the past eight months he’s teasingly released four singles from his new Tomboy LP, the latest, ‘Surfer’s Hymn’, on 28th March.
As if this suspense wasn’t already enough, his LP will be played in full at parties in select record stores a week before anyone can get their paws on it.
Manchester gets in there first, with a party at Piccadilly Records on Monday from 5pm, followed by one at Brighton’s Resident an hour later. Up in Glasgow your anticipation will have to hang around until next Sunday, when the record can be heard at Monorail from 11pm, but luckily there’ll be no post-party pause, as it’ll be available to buy from midnight.
There’s free limited edition posters when you pre-order and beer’s are on the Bear, so prize yourself away from googling around for the latest mp3s, get out there and get social.
Panda Bear will fully come out of hibernation with Tomboy on his Paw Tracks label on 11th April.
